Guide to Thorntons’ Treeland

Explore the tree farm and select and cut a beautiful Christmas tree.

While you're here, visit the barn, see the animals and enjoy a hayride.

Animal rules:

Dogs are welcome on a leash except for near the animal pens and inside the barn.

How it works

  • There is no order in which you have to enjoy all the activities at Thorntons' Treeland, but all of them are worth your time!

  • Come into the old barn to warm yourself with free coffee and hot chocolate. We encourage you take a family photo, enjoy Christmas music, and see the life-size, lifelike nativity scene. Shop for crafts, snacks, wreaths, and tree accessories too!

  • Stop on by the petting zoo behind the barn to meet our farmyard friends. Make sure to bring plenty of quarters so the whole family can join in on the feeding fun!

  • A short stroll from the barn takes you down the path to our hay wagon way station. There, you can hop aboard the free hay ride. It’s fun for all ages and a great way to see the farm!

At Thorntons’ Treeland

  • We have plenty of parking both near the barn and down in the fields. Feel free to either park, get out, and walk through the fields at your leisure or drive further down the gravel road for easy access. Either way, we ask that you always park in the clearly marked designated parking areas.

  • If you are looking for a particular kind of tree, watch for the signs that label the fields.

  • The signs label a given area, but please refer to the white tags on the trees to confirm their individual types and prices.

  • If you see trees without tags, please don’t cut them down. Those are still growing to make sure we have a great selection for years to come, and not for sale.

What we provide

  • Handsaws for tree cutting are dispersed around the farm at saw stations (please return them once you’re done)

  • Tree carts to bring your cut tree back to the barn

  • Free shaking to remove old/dead needles

  • Baling (wrapping your tree in netting) for $5.99

  • Free twine to secure your tree

How are Trees Priced?

  • Trees are priced based on height and species with our smallest trees starting around $40.

Cutting down your tree

  • When you've found the perfect tree, carefully saw it as close to the ground as possible. This will give you plenty of space for the tree stand as well as allow for the best planting of new trees for future years.

  • We are happy to trim off branches and put a flush cut on your tree so that it fits well into your stand.

Shaking and baling your tree

  • Shaking: (free of charge) The shaking machine removes loose and dead needles as well as other debris such as birds' nests from your tree. It's also fun to watch!

  • Baling: The baler will wrap the tree securely in netting, making it easier to load, transport, and set up. There is a small charge for this popular service.
